- The Japanese culture is truly the most helping, generous, and respectful culture I have experienced thus far. They will go out of their way to show you were you need to go, or how something works. Minnesota nice has nothing on Japan!
- They get Earthquakes. We were told before arriving that Japan experiences earthquakes, so I figured I would experience one or two over the course of the 8 months that we will be here. I was not expecting to experience 3 over a two week period. Small earthquakes, but large enough for this rookie!
- They back their cars into every parking spot imaginable. This is new to me, and is really wishing I would have practiced my 90 degree backing more throughout my years. However, you can't prepare to 90 degree park on the opposite side of the road, driving in the opposite side of the car...that is new and is very challenging! Thank God we have a back-up camera in our Toyota Wish! A true lifesaver!
- Seafood, Seafood, Seafood! Coming from Minnesota where the only seafood you typically eat is Walleye...the grocery store is a new and very foreign place for me! Sure I can point out the beef, pork, and chicken, but if you are asking me what kind of fish that is or what or how to prepare a sea-urchin...I am totally lost.
- The Japanese apparently have something against chocolate chip cookies, apple crisp, baked potatoes, and an oven baked turkey, because we do not have an oven in our home. We have two burners, and a tiny broiler big enough to broil one fillet of fish at a time. This may cause some issues during the winter when I am really craving some Christmas cookies!

My First Inital Thoughts...
We have arrived in Japan about 2 weeks ago now, and I can now really get a grasp on my first impressions of Japan.
